Welcome to the St. Louis Senior Dog Project Blog. Visit our adoptable dogs on our website and please keep us in mind when you have a little extra cash and are feeling generous.
Ellen's Notes:
If rainy weather tires you, take a tip from Fridley (now Cooper) who finds his owners' bed most comfortable. Dave and Jan sent this picture, noting that this is "what he does best."
Fridley was one of a litter of 5 "surprise" puppies. The mother came out of the Pound sick with pneumonia and deceptively thin with a feathery coat that shielded her belly. She gave us no reason to suspect she was about to give birth.
What a shock then when the first puppy arrived. It took me several seconds of staring dumbfounded at the small critter on the floor before the light went on. Oh my. Trina the mom took good care of the pups even though she was still ill. Her coughing soon infected the puppies, and we began treating all the puppies with antibiotics. In the end, they all survived and all found good homes -- including mom.
Yes, we are the St. Louis Senior Dog Project, but sometimes puppies happen.
Christine emailed about Diva, a terrier mix she adopted.
"Diva is doing great. She definately has the right name. She is such a joy for our family. So well behaved. She goes everywhere possible with us and everyone stops us and tells us how cute she is. She has a better wardrobe than I do. One day we were shopping at Petco and the vet actually took her back to show all of her clients and staff how cute she was. Her fur is growing and she is looking much healthier."
Question for the day: Do you know anyone who has ever given up a dog for a spouse or girlfriend/boyfriend? How did it turn out? I'll be writing about that some more.
