Welcome to the St. Louis Senior Dog Project Blog. We're an all-volunteer dog rescue organization. We help dogs of all ages, but we specialize in the seniors. See our adoptable dogs on our website. Read on.
Buddy's such a helper! That's what Marion tells us about the little old dog she adopted from us.
I also heard from Krista, who adopted Roxie, a shy puppymill shih tzu.
"She is doing quite well. At first, she didn't eat for 2 or 3 days and gave Brett and me some worry. But now she eats well and as of the last few days, she even eats with me in the room! We call her Little Bit. She sleeps in bed with us every night; she sleeps through the night with no accidents, and she likes to cuddle.
"She is still very shy, unless she is already lying with you. I can touch her head and face now, but Brett can't yet; it will take time. She lets me touch her feet sometimes without fussing. She is a huge Momma's girl. That is exactly what I was looking for in her.
"She still runs from us when she is on the ground, but if I say Whoa (I have horses) she will usually let me pick her up. I think it is becoming a game. We have taken it extremely slow with her. She is very emotionally damaged! But she is very lovable and she wants to trust us.We are very happy to have her."
I hope stories like these help others who have adopted neglected and damaged dogs. Be patient. It's worth it.
