Maybe you could lend us a hand.

Welcome to the St. Louis Senior Dog Project Blog.  First, meet Beaumont, a 5-year-old handsome red dog looking for a home.  Beaumont confesses that he can climb a 4-foot chain link fence, but otherwise, he's a perfectly fine boy with a short happy tail.  Beaumont Beaumont wishes he could find his perfect home soon.  He'd like bed privileges and, in exchange, will massage your back for you (sort of). Beaumont and other are on our website at www.olderbetter.petfinder.org.

And now meet Kati Bishop, one of our volunteers. Katie is trying to find us some more volunteers.  Read what she says.

"I pretty much love volunteers.  My first job when I came back to the States after some time abroad was as a volunteer coordinator.  I was amazed that so many people wanted to give of their time and talent to help the organization that employed me.

Years later as a volunteer with the Senior Dog Project, I am still amazed by all of the kind, caring, talented folks who turn out every Saturday to help at the adoption events.  And the Foster parents!  Oh my, what a marvelous job they do taking in dogs in various states of neglect and/ or ill health and turning them into clean healthy dogs ready to be coddled house pets.

So, here is where we need some help and we just know you are up to the task.  Our foster parents also need to take vacations, occasionally travel on business or- (unfortunately) enter the hospital for a short stay.  Since we are at capacity – it is difficult for us to find a place to put these extra dogs.   Surely, one of our adoptive homes would love to have a onetime crack a fostering, knowing that it would only be for a week?   For those who have said to me “I don’t know how you do it”, well, here is your chance to find out!  Of course we would try to make a match with your dog, and household to make the transition as easy as possible.  Your help in these situations allows us to continue to get dogs from the overcrowded local shelters instead of going on an intake “freeze”.

Some can’t foster a dog – even short term, for various reasons;  These are the incredibly giving folks who come to the events , see a need, and take care of it!  Gerri and her crew made us quilted pads for our crates.  Now, when we have a big event all of our dogs are sittin’ snazzy on and made quilted red crate pads!  Others have just pulled up a chair and begun folding brochures – and still others have made runs to the copy store so there are brochures to fold.    What ever your talent – we bet we can find a use for it!

Of course, we have a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing.  We have a few volunteers that are expert garage sale goers and thrift store shoppers.  They have collected an assortment of dog related items that we would like to offer for sale on E-bay.  Anybody out there want to run the St. Louis Senior dog project eBay store?  You duties would include – well – all of it!  Your would take the pictures and post the items , close out the sales and send the merchandise.  We already have a Paypal account set up – but the other duties would be all yours.    Drop us an email if this job appeals to you."

And if you can't volunteer, we will take donations.  Just click on the link below to donate through paypal.  Or send check to address on our website.
