Scooter is now ready for adoption.
The St. Louis Senior Dog Project is a not-for-profit dog rescue organization specializing in older dogs but taking in and finding homes for dogs of all ages...even puppies. Meet and adopt your new best friend 11 to 3 Saturday and 11 to 2 Sunday, June 16 and 17 in the Kirkwood Petco near I-44 and Lindbergh. To see which dogs will be there as well as other adoptable dogs, go Here. We still have some money in This Dixie Fund to cover all but $50 of the fee for Red Ribbon dogs, generally those that are 8 years and older or have special needs that make them hard to place.
A couple months ago a wrote a blog titled "Naked, Stinky beagle for adoption." Maybe I even described him as "old, naked and stinky." But how he has changed! That's Scooter above. Thanks to the staff at Ivan Animal Hospital numerous baths, pills, and the patience of his foster parents, Scooter is sweet smelling and sporting a handsome beagle coat. This is what he looked like when we took him out of Jefferson County Animal Control where he ended up after the death of his owner.
Hard to believe this is the same dog. We have our rescue dogs and then we have what we sometimes call "real" rescues. Scooter is a "real" rescue.
But Scooter is only one of the lucky beagles now in our care. Miss Pickles is a chubby but otherwise perfect 4-year-old beagle who will make a great dog for a family or indiviual. Here she is:
And then last week one of our young volunteers told me about a beagle that had been running loose at a boy scout camp in Illinois. The dog ended up in a high kill shelter where he was out of time. One of our other volunteers picked him up and got him to me before his noon deadline. He's a skinny, skinny boy about 5 years old, friendly and eating voraciously. Naturally, I called him Scout. Here's Scout.
And next here's Chrysanthemum, one of several beagles who found themselves in Jefferson County Animal Control recently.
Then today a couple people volunteered to foster two other beagles waiting for help at Jefferson County Animal Control. Here's one of them. I'm calling her Petunia. The other is another chubby one called Fat Pants. He was picked up "waddling at large." Pictures of him later.
So if you're looking for a beagle, we've got beagles.
And yes we had adoptions last week including Keyana the schnauzer Tequila the shih tzu/terrier, Max the shih tzu, Sebastian the poodle, Tippy the hound mx, Violet the havanese and Brutus the shepherd mix. A good week.
Now let's hear it for beagles.
