The St. Louis Senior Dog Project is a not-for-profit dog rescue organization specializing in older dogs but taking in and finding homes for dogs of all ages...even puppies. We'll have dogs for adoption from 11 to 3 Saturday, October 26, at the Kirkwood Petco near I-44 and Lindbergh, and from 11 to 2 Saturday, October 25, at the St. Charles Petco on Zumbehl Rd.. To see which dogs will be there as well as other adoptable dogs, go Here. Please join us Sunday, November 3 at the Petco 5k9 Walk/Run and/or the Scrabble Scramble. See below for details.
What do stray dogs, smiling dogs, scrabble and a 5k9 run and even the St. Louis Cardinals all have in common? They're all part of what we're busy with this week.
Last weekend we placed Keiko, above, and Sophie, below: two dogs that had been running loose as strays. We also took in Sophie, a black shepherd mix, and Sweet Potato, a beagle, from Jefferson County Animal Control. They are are newest former strays.
Smiling Dogs? Aren't Keiko and Sophie Smiling?
As for Scrabble, 5k9 Walk Run and the Cardinals, they are all other activities that will make it possible for us to continue rescuing and placing stray dogs, smiling dogs, frowning dogs, neglected dogs, unwanted dogs, shy dogs, old dogs, young dogs and any other kind of dog you can name.
November 3rd is the date for both the Petco 5k9 Walk Run event and the Scrabble Scramble fundraiser.
It's not too late to sign up for either of these events. The Petco 5k9 Walk Run event, beginning at 10 a.m., features a well supported 5K or 1-mile course. By attending this event, we are supporting the Petco Foundation which also helps support the St. Louis Senior Dog Project and many other shelters and rescues. For more information, visit www.5k9walkrun.com.
The Scrabble Scramble, sponsored by Building Business by Referral of Jefferson County, will be from 2 to 5, Sunday, November 3, at the VFW Post, 2301 Church Road, Arnold, MO. Love Scrabble? This is for you. Not so good at scrabble? This is still for you. The afternoon of fun and charity will include cash prizes, snacks, cash bar, and a unique silent auction. Cost is $50 for a table of four. If you don't have three friends to bring along, we can squeeze you in somewhere. All proceeds will benefit three organizatons: Ride On St. Louis, Arnold Food Pantry and St. Louis Senior Dog Project.
For ticket information and reservations for Scrabble Scramble, contact BarkPlaza at 636-464-4334 or Barkplaza@yahoo.com.
And the Cardinals? Some of us are selling Cardinals' calendars for $15 a calendar. For every calendar we sell, we keep $7. Come by the Kirkwood Petco 11 to 3 Saturday or check with one of our volunteers.
And here's one more picture that doesn't quite fit the theme. I got Fridley at a dog auction. He was one of many dogs being sold off by a breeding facility that was shutting down. I knew before I went that I'd try to take home Fridley, because he has the same name as my daughter. No, that's not her first name. Fridley turned out to be one of the most pathetic dogs at the auction: bad skin, horrible teeth. But he had a super personality. Yes, we took Fridley home (and many others) and treated his skin and his teeth. He became a little less pathetic looking and his personality blossomed. Then last Sunday he met a nice lady who wanted to adopt a dog that seemed especially needy. She picked Friday, and I actually think Fridley smiled.
