Mindy...wants a home for Christmas.
The St. Louis Senior Dog Project is a not-for-profit dog rescue organization specializing in older dogs but taking in and finding homes for dogs of all ages...even puppies. We'll have dogs for adoption from 11 to 3 Saturday, December 7 and noon to 3 Sunday, December 8, at the Kirkwood Petco near I-44 and Lindbergh., To see which dogs will be there as well as other adoptable dogs, go Here.
Is this the right time for a dog? Some people will say that the holiday season is not the right time to introduce a new dog to your home. Others will say that the memories of that Christmas puppy or adult dog will delight you for years to come. We have dogs who would love a home for the holidays. But we also want to avoid placing our dogs into overly stressful situations. So is this the right time for you?
I say it all depends and remind you that if you adopt now, the dog will be settled in by Christmas. Also, we at St. Louis Senior Dog Project may be able to hold your new dog until after Christmas. We will be holding adoption events both 11 ti 3 Saturday and noon to 3 Sunday at the Kirkwood Petco near I-44 and Lindbergh. So naturally we're hoping many dogs will find their new homes.
We have puppies and we have old dogs.We have small dogs and big dogs. We have some with special needs and a couple that need to go as a pair. Mindy, above, is a rat terrier/bull terrier (we think) who is in our minds almost perfect. A couple others available are below: Heather the lab mix puppy, followed by Layla, the chubby senior minpin.
And we have many others.
I do offer this advice. Don't introduce your new dog to a housefull of guests. Don't toss your new pup into the car for a road trip to grandmother's house. Either of those situations could be too stressful for a new dog. Most of the time such busy activities are too stressful for me...and maybe some of you other non canines. And sometimes the outcome can be disastrous if a frightened dog darts out an open door or backs out of its leash and collar at a rest stop.
So why not a before Christmas dog? Or an after Christmas dog? Or a quiet holiday at home with just the family -- perfect for getting acquainted.
We're happy to advise and assist as you look for dogs this month. Come on by .
