Loki the Blue Heeler
The St. Louis Senior Dog Project is a not-for-profit dog rescue organization specializing in older dogs but taking in and finding homes for dogs of all ages...even puppies. Meet and adopt your new best from 11 to 3 Saturday, March 1, and noon to 3 Sunday, March 2, in the Kirkwood Petco near I-44 and Lindbergh. To see which dogs will be there as well as other adoptable dogs, go Here.
The trouble with puppies is that they are so darn adorable. And it's a good thing they are. The same can be said of human babies. Human or canine, it's all the same. We love them. They make us laugh. They make us cry. They are mischief. They are joy.
Although the St. Louis Senior Dog Project concentrates mainly on adult and older dogs, we do take in puppies. We get our puppy fix and (sometimes) remember what it is we like so much about the older dogs.
Loki, above, is an Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) about five months old. He's too smart for his own good and it sometimes gets him in trouble. Loki is a handsome bundle of energy. He's learning to play fetch, but it doesn't always want to bring the ball back. He knows "sit" and "give paw" and is all ready for a puppy training class. Someday he'd love to like to race through tunnels, climb ramps and jump over hurdles in an agility class. He'd be the best. As a herding breed, Loki already enjoys herding the foster mom's grandchildren.
Loki is good with other dogs, children and adults. He's the perfect pup for an active person or family. He'll be about 35 to 40 lbs full grown and will still want to sit on your lap. He's that cuddly.
Another puppy with us is Arrow, a 3 to 4 month old Boxer puppy. We are currently raising money to pay for the heart surgery Arrow needs. Without it he won't live much more than two years. Right now he's all puppy. You wouldn't know he had such a serious problem. If you'd like to help, here's the link to his fundraising site. http://www.petcaring.com/nonprofits/arrow-s-heart-is-broken-and-needs-surgery-to-fix-it-/37313
How could we say "no" to a face like this? Here's Arrow:
Our two other puppies are Buster and Clyde, a pair of mixed-breed cuties found abandoned on a wood pile. They are about 4 months old now and 15 lbs. Full grown they should be about 30 lbs. They are now healthy and ready for homes. Here they are:
Loki, Buster and Clyde will all be at the Kirkwood Petco 11 to 3 Saturday along with other older dogs.
See you there.....and don't forget to help Arrow.
