Maggie Sue
The St. Louis Senior Dog Project is a not-for-profit dog rescue organization specializing in older dogs but taking in and finding homes for dogs of all ages...even puppies. Meet and adopt your new best from 11 to 3 Saturday, May 10 at the Kirkwood Petco at 1124 S. Kirkwood Rd. To see which dogs will be where, go Here.
As Maggie Sue's guardian lay dying, he had one thing on his mind. His beloved dog, Maggie Sue. He begged his nurse to find a home for Maggie Sue, a 5 year old hound mix.
The nurse promised she would not forget about the dog, who was then living outdoors and being fed by neighbors. The dying man had no family who could take Maggie Sue. So the nurse, true to her word, starting making calls. When I received her call, I found it hard to resist. Here was a dying man's wish and a good nurses effort to make good on her promise.
I checked with our foster homes, and Kati volunteered. Of all our fosters, she's the one with a weakness for hounds. The nurse picked up Maggie Sue; I met them and drove the dog over to Kati's.
At first Maggie Sue seemed timid, but that changed after a few days, and her sweetness blossomed. She needed spay surgery and treatment for some skin infections. We also found out she had a tick- borne illness. We took care of it all, and now Maggie Sue is ready for a new home.
Maggie Sue is what we call an easy keeper. She's such a good dog that you don't even need dog experience to succeed with her. She'd be a great first dog for someone.
And doesn't she have a sweet face?
Yesterday 88 people sent us donations through the STLDay online fundraiser. We raised $2,720, and we organizers of this St. Louis Area fundraiser which brought in more than a million dollars for 500 area not-for-profits. Thank you all.
And here are a couple pictures of recently adopted dogs. Here's Valentine, a cocker spaniel formerly used as a breeder. She came to us shy but after a few weeks with in a foster home with Janet, Valentine went to her new home as a happy girl. This looks like a smile to me.
And here's a picture of Munchkin ( a most popular pomeranian who received many applications) with his new family.
Other recent adoptions include Barrett and Gunther. A couple others are pending.

Maggie Sue is a doppelganger for my Farrah, now happily living with her new family in AR. Simply gorgeous.
