Tinkerbell and Mugsley
The St. Louis Senior Dog Project is a not-for-profit dog rescue organization specializing in older dogs but taking in and finding homes for dogs of all ages...even puppies. Meet your new best friend noon to 3 Sunday, January 10, in the Kirkwood Petco north of I-44 off the Lindbergh exit. To see which dogs are available, go Here.
Recent flooding in Missouri affected dogs as well as humans. When floor waters threatened Tinkerbell and Mugsley's home, their owners moved out and left the two senior dogs behind.
Fortunately, the brave pair stayed out of the water and had enough to eat. Their owners came back to check on them but decided they could no longer afford to keep them. That's where we came in. We received several emails and texts about this homeless pair, and a wonderful dog lover drove them my way.
Today the pair are enjoying a day at the groomers. Tomorrow they'll have their teeth cleaned and all their shots updated. Once they receive the okay from our veterinarian, they'll be ready for a new home. They'd like to go together. They've been together most of their lives. We think both are between 8 and 10 years old. If we can't find them a home together, I think they're both independent enough to be adopted out separately.
We've adopted out quite a few dogs lately and taken in some new ones. This is Bix, a 5 to 6 year old rat terrier whose former owner is now in hospice care. Bix has been well cared for during his life. Now he just needs a new home and someone to love.
We also took in a 10 year old chocolate lab because of his owner's serious illness. We always anticipate trouble placing 10 year old dogs, but it didn't happen with Hershey. He charmed everyone at his first adoption event and found a happy new family.
Among other recent adoptions were Vienna, the chubby Miniature Australian Shepherd, and Dickens, a small dog that looked like a Brussells/Pug/Chihuahua. Here they are.
Congratulations to all who recently found homes.
We're starting a new schedule for the new year. We'll be at the Kirkwood Petco 11 to 3 on the first and third Saturday of the month and noon to 3 on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. See you there.
Don't forget to check out my two books, Redbud and The Chihuahua Affair on Kindle and Amazon. They're number one and two in the Dog Lady Mystery series.
