Pepper will have her heart surgery Monday.
The St. Louis Senior Dog Project is a not-for-profit dog rescue organization specializing in older dogs but taking in and finding homes for dogs of all ages...even puppies. We'll have dogs for adoption from 11 to 3 Saturday,February 2, in the Kirkwood Petco near I-44 and Lindbergh To see which dogs will be there as well as other adoptable dogs, go Here.
Pepper the schnauzer mix and Bing Crosby the yorkie would both love to give you all a big smooch and wag. We've raised enough money for Pepper's heart surgery and almost enough for Bing Crosby's eye surgery. Pepper's surgery will be Monday. Pepper is scheduled for February 18.
Heart surgery and cataract surgery are beyond our usually means. As much as we'd like to do everything possible for our dogs, we can't take on expensive surgeries without raising money especially for the particular dogs in need. And that's what we did. And now we need to thank all those who have made it possible.
When we first started our efforts for these dogs, Elissa and others set up Chip In pages and put the word out on Facebook. Everyone emailed and spread the word. Vicki found out about an organization that helps with heart surgery. Some people donated hundreds, but many donations came in in much smaller amounts including coins from youngsters. It all added up and our thoughts are with these dogs as they receive life saving and life changing surgeries.
Special thanks goes out to The Big Heart Fund, the Trio Animal Foundation, Kris and Jennifer, Cheryl, Laurie, Laura, Sydney and her classmates, and many others. We love you all and will keep you posted.
This week brought quite a few adoptions including VeeVee and Hansel, both of whom have waited too long to find their new homes. Akasha and Sirius found their homes. So did Mary, Ruben, Joe, Adel, GLoria, Ingrid, Mr Green and Cagny and Lacy. And we're in the process of possibly adopting out Blue Bell and Sally Dee. Quite a week indeed.
Another thing that always makes me feel good is a picture and email from someone who previously adopted a dog from us. Courtney emailed to say that Parker/formerly Leon just celebrated his first anniversary with her. This cocker spaniel has "changed my life," she wrote, bragging also about his gentle nature and love for everyone. Good as he may be most of the time, he did need emergency veterinary care once when he misbehaved by eating a pair of panties. All was forgiven. Here he is, looking quite content on the sofa.
